Although I'm a fan of rarer, milder blends, I do enjoy a delicious cream tea every once in a while – as long as the brew is strong and the scone is made correctly.
However, there is much debate over whether you put the cream or the jam on the scone first. Personally I put the cream on before the jam, but my friends beg to differ!
It's also a bone of contention for the organisers of a Devon food event, the BBC reports.
The Tavistock Food and Drink Festival has had to completely redo all of its promotional images after they showed a delicious scone with the cream on top of the jam, which is the Cornish way to do it.
"I think the placement of the ingredients is important, to distinguish it from other cream teas," said Language Farm's Paul Winterton, who is currently leading a campaign to obtain European protection for the actual name of "Devon cream tea".
The issue is a sticky one for the two counties, both of which claim their version of cream tea is the best.
Even talking about it makes your mouth water, doesn't it?
