As much as I try to shop locally and support independent businesses, a quick trip to my nearest 24-hour supermarket is often most convenient given my busy schedule.
However, I am ever so glad to hear that a new Tesco being built in the West Midlands area of Brownhills won't be pulling down a popular social club to make way for its 88,500 sq ft premises.
According to the Birmingham Mail, the club has 45 members who meet three times a week to play bingo, although the site is also used for other activities.
Some 350 people signed a petition to campaign against the building's demise and now Walsall Council – which was apparently drawing up plans with Tesco for the new store – has rethought the scheme.
"The club will be retaining what they've got. The new plans involve purely moving other things around so that the building isn't required," said Tony Fletcher, corporate affairs manager for the supermarket chain.
I am so pleased for the players, who can still enjoy their thrice-weekly meets.
Don't you just love it when a bit of community spirit saves the day?
Good luck with your next game, bingo fans.
