Although everyone has a different preference when it comes to their cuppa, there are sure to be many of us who are drawn to Tetley tea folk.
However, the times they are a-changing – and these loveable cartoon characters have been unveiled in a brand new 21st-century guise.
The floppy caps and long white coats of the Gaffer, Sydney and cake-lover Tina have disappeared to be replaced with hip-hop hats and high heels.
The former – the bespectacled head of the factory – has been reinvented as a high-flying businessman complete with a pinstriped suit and mobile phones, while Tina’s girl-next-door looks have been well and truly Wag-ified with a designer dress, stilettos and big hair.
Meanwhile, Sydney – the bashful assistant – has come over all N-Dubz, with one of Dappy’s trademark woolly hats and some gold bling.
Although their makeovers might attract a younger clientele – just as the recent rumours about Lady Gaga and Pixie Lott signing advertising deals with companies such as Twinings may – some tea traditionalists might be a bit shocked at the extreme change.
To those, I say sit down and have a brew to get over the shock.
Have an extra sugar on me, bingo fans.
