A group of brew-loving tea ladies have descended upon Downing Street in the hope of urging we Brits to be more ethical when we sit down to a nice cuppa.
The Fairtrade Swap Your Cuppa campaign is hoping to get tea-lovers far and wide to switch to Fairtrade brands of our favourite beverage.
If everyone in the UK and Ireland regularly bought just one Fairtrade brand then it could go towards helping the more than 14 million people in developing countries who suffer from unfair trade conditions.
And it would seem that this worthwhile campaign has won the support of one very high-profile lady indeed – none other than the prime minister’s wife.
"We’re a nation of tea drinkers, so just imagine what we could achieve if we all put fairness first in our choice of cuppa," said Sarah Brown.
She explained that at Downing Street all visitors can enjoy Fairtrade brews, biscuits and even choccies.
The campaign is hoping to rebalance the power so that tea-makers can enjoy a better and more profitable future.
